A lawyer representing four churches threatened in Oct 2016 with demolition in Sudan has uncovered plans for a further 21 places of worship to be knocked down.
Middle East Concern reports that in a recent court ruling the lawyer was granted the right to see the official order for demolition. He found it didn’t just apply to the churches he was representing but a further 21 church buildings.
A year ago, Sudan’s Ministry of Internal Affairs ordered refugee churches in Khartoum to “register” or face closure.
In October 2015, an Evangelical church was demolished in Omdurman, just west of Khartoum, at only 72 hours’ notice; it had been there for over 30 years. Another church, a Lutheran one, was burned down in Gadaref, in the eastern part of the country.
Sudan is fifth on the Open Doors 2017 World Watch List of the 50 countries in which it is most difficult to live as a Christian.
