The charges against a Sudanese pastor have been dropped, following a court hearing in Khartoum, but four other church leaders are still being held.
Hafiz Mengisto, leader of Khartoum’s Bahri Evangelical Church, was taken to court for challenging a government employee overseeing the destruction of parts of the church complex in July. However, charges were dropped at a hearing in December. The charges against his lawyer, Mohaned Mustafa, were also dismissed – on procedural grounds.
However, there is still no news about four other Sudanese church leaders, including Rev. Kuwa Shamal and Rev. Hassan Abdelrahim from the Sudanese Church of Christ, who were arrested at their homes early on 18 Dec.
