According to Vanguard News, Alhaji Sa’ad Abubakar – the Sultan of Sokoto, a region in northern Nigeria that is a seat of Islamic learning – has “called on Muslims and Christians to come together to end insurgency in the country.”
Abubakar is the 20th Sultan and titular ruler of Sokoto, as well as leader of the Nigerian National Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs; he said his administration would continue to support Islamic and Christian studies in the region.
“What is happening to our brothers in the northern parts of the country is bad and we must come together to find an end to this insurgency,” he said during the opening ceremony of the 29th National Recitation Competition of the Quran, Abubakar.
“Islam stands for peace, people doing so many things in the name of Islam should look inward and repent,’’ he said.
