A Sudanese military aircraft dropped bombs near a Catholic hospital May 1, sending patients, some of them still connected to IV bags, fleeing into foxholes in the bush. Nuba Reports has dramatic video here.
Two bombing passes by the jet fighter caused only a few minor injuries and rattled the doors, windows and roof of Mother of Mercy Hospital, in the Nuba Mountains of South Kordofan, Sudan. The more lasting damage may be psychological. “The bombing is an outrage against innocent civilians who are seeking medical assistance from our hospital,” said Bishop Emeritus Macram Max Gassis, of the Diocese of EI Obeid, as quoted by Caritas, a Catholic relief agency . “The sick have nothing to do with the conflict that has devastated the Nuba Mountains since June 2011. They are innocent civilians protected by international law from direct targeting by military forces.”
