The two Syrian bishops kidnapped in April are believed to be alive, according to Turkey’s Foreign Ministry, which says it is continuing to petition for their release.
Bishops Yohanna Ibrahim and Boulos Yazigi were kidnapped on April 22 after returning from the Turkish border town, Hatay.
“Our efforts to rescue them are still under way,” said a statement. “We are doing our best to ensure anyone who has been kidnapped in Syria is saved, as our minister had previously expressed. Men of religion have an added significance. Turkey is making every effort so the metropolitans can be saved. Although we are not 100 per cent certain, we have reason to believe they are alive.”
