Citing “reliable sources” that it does not name, the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights is reporting that 22 Assyrian Christians kidnapped in February have been released by the self-proclaimed “Islamic State.” It said the release involved mediation by tribal leaders between the Diocese of al-Hasakah and IS representatives.
Even as the group reports the release of the captives, dozens of other Christians are reported to be among 230 people abducted when IS overran the Syrian town of Al-Quaryatayn earlier this month.
