The Assyrian International News Agency (AINA) has released a list of the names of Syrian churches and monasteries destroyed by ISIS and other jihadi groups since February.
“On February 23, ISIS attacked the 35 Assyrian villages on the Khabur River in [Al-Hasakah], Syria, capturing 253 Assyrians. In the subsequent months it destroyed 11 churches and villages, rendering some villages uninhabitable,” writes AINA in its report.
AINA lists the names of these 11 Assyrian churches, and five non-Assyrian churches.
In May, the Syrian Network for Human Rights reported that a total of 63 Syrian churches had been damaged or destroyed in four years of civil war.
